Elementary FLES
K-2 FLES Curriculum
The goal of our elementary FLES program is to inspire a love of learning. Early language learning and cross-cultural connections help to build pathways both neurologically and through human connections. We aspire to instill a desire to see the world and to make connections with others.
Our instructional model promotes a near exclusive use of Spanish during class time in a variety of settings. These include activities as a whole class, as center oriented groupings, as partners, and as individuals with the teacher. We incorporate culture through art, handicrafts, dance, music through songs, chants and rhythms, social amenities, holidays and culinary experiences.
The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) is a national organization dedicated to the improvement and expansion of the teaching and learning of all languages at all levels of instruction.
Our curriculum is aligned with ACTFL’s 5 “C's of World Readiness Standards for Learning Languages. They include: cultures, communication, communities, comparisons and connections.
Our FLES program is a literature and music based program. The books in our FLES libraries, as well as our songs are key resources for our instruction. Some of our books and songs are originals solely written for our FLES program. Duolingo, Rockalingua and Enchanted Learning, as well as Seesaw, Book Creator and BrainPOP are all part of our efforts to integrate technology and 21st century learning into our FLES program.
