Elementary Library Media Center

3-6 Library Media Center

Our 3-6 grade students learn a multitude of different skills including communication, collaboration, reading, and critical thinking. Our curriculum is aligned with the American Association of School Libraries. Students learn how to become respectful and thoughtful digital citizens through lessons that follow the Common Sense Education curriculum.

Throughout the year, our students develop and strengthen their research skills by using our Virtual Reference Collection. When students visit our databases, they learn how to cite sources, avoid plagiarism, evaluate websites, and discern misinformation from disinformation.

PBIS is a district-wide approach that ESM uses to promote school safety and good behavior. We promote PBIS in the Library Media Center through the Leader in Me model. The Leader in Me model promotes leadership and allows students to become more goal-oriented and successful in today’s ever-changing world. Once a month in library class, students learn about one of the seven habits of happy kids that they can implement in their daily lives.

Lastly, our library makerspace has become an area that embodies creativity, collaboration, and inspiration. A makerspace is a place where students can collaborate as they design, explore, and use their imagination. Our makerspaces contain LEGOS, crafts, board games, Snap Circuits, Lincoln Logs, 3Doodler, and Strawbees.
