The District announced the retirement of longtime district clerk Sharon Murray during the Sept. 18 board of education meeting.

Sharon held the job as district clerk for more than 30 years and has prepared for more than 1,000 board meetings, Superintendent of Schools Joseph A. Steimel explained. Mr. Steimel also remarked that Ms. Murray’s continuity has been extremely important as she has spent countless hours working with new and veteran trustees and superintendents. He also noted that Ms. Murray was clerk during the district’s merger and building of the current Eastport-South Manor Jr.-Sr. High School and was a wonderful advisor and friend when he became former principal.

Mr. Steimel said, “To say she is the mortar of the bricks is an understatement.”

Board of Education President Jeffrey Goldhammer also thanked Ms. Murray for her decades of dedication to the community. “She is irreplaceable to any board member entering into a trustee position and will be missed,” Mr. Goldhammer said.
