District classrooms took time to celebrate the power of reading aloud during annual World Read Aloud Day, held on Feb. 7. Teams of district high school students, who are members of the English Honor Society, shared their favorite books with younger students enrolled at Dayton Avenue, Eastport, Tuttle Avenue and South Street elementary schools.
World Read Aloud Day encourages people throughout the world to read aloud together and share stories to advocate for literature and the written word.
In addition to reading aloud, the high school volunteers also worked with the elementary school students to write and illustrate their own stories.
