The District, in its commitment to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment, hosted a social-emotional learning event called Respect For All. Held in the Jr.-Sr. High School’s library media center on March 19, the community event was an opportunity to share local information and resources with district families.
Special guest and author Jack Berckemeyer also delivered a presentation, “Understanding Adolescents,” in which he addressed some of the complications witnessed by parents raising children ages 10-15 and offered advice on how to improve parents’ relationships during this complicated and often frustrating age. Mr. Berckemeyer spoke about issues with gaming and cellphone use, early puberty and the adolescent’s need for consistency and accountability.
During the event, parents also acquired free child ID cards through the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office and a library card through the Center Moriches Library. Other help vendors who attended include DASH Family Service League, South Oaks Hospital - Northwell Health, Response Crisis Center and Rise Life Services.
