Eastport-South Manor elementary and secondary students explored world culture through participation at various events and classroom activities during World Language Week, held on March 3-7.
The elementary classes had been studying several countries, studied flags and music of individual countries, and created posters showcasing different ways to say “hello” in various languages.
The Jr.-Sr. High School hosted the Sol y Sombra Dance Company Inc. in which students learned about Latin and Hispanic world culture along with the history of Flamenco dance. The program also emphasized the uniqueness and variety of each country united by the Spanish language. But the highlight was when select students learned a short choreography of Flamenco dance steps.
The school’s World Language Honor Society hosted the second annual International Night where the school community explored countries around the world through individual displays, food and crafts. With passports in hand, elementary students enjoyed exploring other cultures as they visited the displays to have their passports stamped.
